Ruby Payne has written many books, including A Framework for Understanding Poverty. She has also developed educational materials and educator training for working with under-resourced learners, understanding families living in poverty, and boosting student achievement.
Theresa Brown from the Hutchinson school district will speak at a joint meeting of iTeachers and WEA, via video
conference about Dr. Payne’s research.
Her topics will include:
1. What teachers can do to build relationships and why that is so important for children of poverty
2. Ruby’s research on “Voices” in dealing with students
3. Cognitive Strategies – what is usually missing for children of poverty and what we can do
to full those gaps.

The iTeachers went on a field trip and learned about Bee-Bots and GPS. The activity was given by Melanie Campbell who is an Instructional Technology Specialist with the Seaman School District.
